The Academy was privileged to take part in a recent Lenten evening, Recollecting The Passion, in the beautiful setting and acoustic of St. Aloysius Church, Garnethill, Glasgow.
The austere event featured a selection of Tomás Luis de Victoria's Tenebrae Responsories, which are a reflection on the events leading up to Christ's Passion. This was followed by Arvo Part's Stabat Mater, a modern masterpiece, and Gregorio Allegri's Miserere (which is traditionally performed after the Responsories.)
The evening featured a number of notable solo performances, both vocal and instrumental, including by 15 year old Academy student, Rosie Lavery. The Responsories and Miserere were conducted by Academy Director, Joan Dillon, with Academy repetiteur, Robert Simans, conducting the Stabat Mater.
